Puppy Information

Raising puppies properly takes a lot of time and dedication. Our main focus for breeding is to always continue to improve the breed and hopefully breed as close to standard as possible. There are many factors that go into each breeding and selecting which sires and dams are compatible. First and foremost is selecting dogs who have outstanding temperaments, correct structure and appropriate health testing. Each litter is bred with hopes of raising a new sport or show prospect for us to keep and move forward with.

Puppy Selection Process: As mentioned above we hope to keep a puppy from a litter for our program and hopefully be able to show. In order to do this we need to evaluate each puppy closely as they grow and mature. This also helps us place puppies in appropriate homes where they will thrive, and be the best possible fit for their new families.

We begin evaluating puppies around 6 weeks old, this is when each puppies personalities are starting to develop. At this age they usually get their first conformation evaluation as well so we can keep track of how they are maturing physically. A more formal evaluation is done at 8 -10 weeks old and by this time we usually have our top 1-2 puppies that may be staying. This is when we also start determining which puppies will be a good fit and match the different lifestyles of families on our waitlist.

While it seems like a lengthy process we send updates, photos and videos of all puppies to prospective families throughout the weeks so they can enjoy the puppies and watch them grow!!

Raising Puppies: The way puppies are raised in the first 10 weeks of their life has a huge impact on what kind of dog they will grow up to be, and have lasting effects.

We utilize ENS (early neurological simulation) which involves applying gentle stressors to very young puppies for short periods of time to improve their stress responses later in life. These exercises just provide different stimulation than puppies would normally get just staying in the whelping box with mom.

After puppies are finished with ENS their eyes are starting to open and become more mobile. This is when other forms of early socialization begin. Aside from being handled daily they begin to be introduced to different play toys, textures, sounds, environments and small obstacles that help them problem solve.

Puppies begin getting their nails done with the Dremel weekly starting at a week old, by the time they are ready for new families they are well prepared for simple grooming practices. This also includes getting comfortable with baths and the blow dryer in a slow and positive environment, it also involves plenty of treats as reward.

Puppies also learn to become handler oriented with our puppy adventure walks learning how to come when called and follow along. This may not seem like a large task but I can assure you when you have a litter of puppies on a ranch and cruising through the sage brush its important for each puppy to stay with us and be mindful. This also provides great stimulation taking in different sights and smells.

Puppies also begin to get introduced to crate training by first taking short naps in a crate after they have had mental and physical stimulation to make them tired puppies. Each crate experience gets lengthened as they get older. Having a well behaved and crate trained puppy is essential. This is important for their safety, traveling, emergencies and helpful with potty training. I encourage all new families to continue with crate training.

Purchasing A Puppy: We work hard and are dedicated to placing puppies in appropriate homes where they will be compatible and live long happy lives. So we do ask anyone interested in one of our puppies complete the puppy application first.

We only place puppies on AKC limited registration with spay/neuter contracts unless other arrangements are made for a possible show prospect. Our puppies our $2000-$2500 dependent on each litter.
