 Welcome to Sagewind Corgis,

My name is Kendall Kinghorn and I want to share a little about myself, family and of course my dogs so you get to know me better.

We are located on a very remote cattle ranch in south central Idaho. My husband is a full time rancher, in his spare time he is also an avid self taught rawhide braider and quite the horseman. My daughter is in grade school but when she is home she enjoys the running wild on the ranch and also a huge help with the corgis. I can usually be found exploring with dogs, helping start colts or on the road driving lol. We are 90 miles from the nearest grocery, veterinarian ect.

My love for Pembroke Welsh Corgis started when I was in high school and since become a passion. Corgis are amazing, smart and talented dogs they make great ranch dogs, sport dogs, and family companions. They are loyal but yet very outgoing when meeting new people. These traits are what make a corgi so special, and why I am dedicated to preserving the breed and always breeding with a sound temperament as the #1 priority.

Once I decided I wanted to step into the show world and "prove" my dogs to how well they meet the breed standard is when the real learning began and fueled my passion even more. The knowledge I started to gain by reading, talking to other breeders and mentors has helped shaped my breeding program. It will always be a continuing education. This is where actually preserving a breed starts. We want to breed and raise puppies that match the standard as closely as possible for many reasons. A dog that has proper structure is going to hold up much better over its years and be less prone to injury.

The last piece of this puzzle in being a dedicated breeder and ensuring and always striving for improvement is health testing. Genetic testing for DM and VWD1 are important factors when planning a breeding as well as doing OFA Hip and Eye exams which are recommended by the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America. You can find great information and articles from their website as well. http://www.pembrokecorgi.org/
